Tram 984 perfectly illustrates the “Belle Epoque” Brussels tram. The driver is protected by a glass windscreen, but the platforms remain unprotected from the elements. The two interior compartments are symmetrical, with 1st class distinguishable by its velvet cushions. These cushions are movable because the position of the 1st class compartment varied according to the line the tram worked. In 1914 the green livery was replaced by a more visible yellow one, that remained in place (with certain variations) until about 2000.
