This was the first generation of “modern” buses put into service in Brussels in the 1960s. 280 (similar) buses of this model were built by Belgian factories between 1957 and 1961. When they were scrapped, the mileage of some of these vehicles exceeded 800,000 km. Some even had a second career with private coach operators and municipalities, which proves their robustness. This was also the case for bus 8246 which became a school bus for the municipality of Ixelles. It carried on doing this for many years after having been decommissioned by STIB.
